He is a Director and one of the founding members of 361 Energy.  Paul was the Project Co-ordinator for the 361 Green Doors and 361 Energy Fair events this year and has also organised several 361 Green Safari tours to renewable energy sites in Devon.  He currently teaches Renewable Energy on the Foundation Degree in Sustainable Resource Management at Petroc in Barnstaple.  Prior to that he was the Technical Manager at Green Deal Installations.  He studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge.  He later completed a PhD and carried out post-doctoral research at Cambridge for Rolls-Royce and British Coal.  More recently he retrained in renewable energy with the Open University.

Gwen de Groot studied Business Strategy and International Studies with The Open University and is an associate fellow of the School for Social Entrepreneurs.   She recently completed the North Devon School for Social Entrepreneurs Project in which she explored the idea of social enterprise using renewable energy.   She is a Director of 361 Energy and played a leading role in organising this year’s 361 Green Doors event and the 361 Energy Fair at Barnstaple Pannier Market.  She has previously worked in marketing and PR for the sustainability sector at CosyHome Company where she attended, and was inspired by, renewables conferences. Through this role she became involved in the North Devon Biosphere Energy Plan review.   Her professional interests include entrepreneurship, community engagement, the marketing of sustainability, PR, project management and public speaking.

Georg van den Berg

Georg is a renewable energy developer and has worked on developing multi-megawatt solar farm projects, in part as an associate of the Carbon Catalyst Group.  Prior to this, Georg was developing 50kW solar barns. His experience includes planning law, finance (debt and equity), grid connections, technical layout and design, financial modelling and feasibility studies.  He is also a lecturer at Petroc in Barnstaple where he gives students work experience on projects under development.  As well as his interest in renewable energy, he has 20 years of experience in organic farm management and consultancy and lives in a low budget, low impact dwelling.

Project Oversight

As the founder and project manager of 361 Energy Thomas has raised about £45,000 in grant funding for the organisation.  Under his management, the organisation has worked on a wide range of projects including advising 40 local households on energy saving, engaging those in fuel poverty, LED bulk buying discounts, Green Open Homes and a large Energy Fair.  361 Energy were part of the European SEACS project and Thomas became the Devon Ambassador for the SEACS project.  He is currently the Resident Costs Manager at Advantage SW.  Before that he was a Ready for Retrofit Project Officer with the Energy Savings Trust.  He is a founding partner in the sustainability consultancy Zero 2050.  He has also worked as an environmental business consultant with Global Action Plan, Envolve and Future West.

Peter took a degree sandwich course with the CEGB based at East Yelland Power Station and Bath University where he studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering.  He worked on a 2000 MW oil -fired power plant at Pembroke and became maintenance technical shift team leader at the Aberthaw ‘A’ and ‘B’ coal fired stations.  The majority of Peter’s career was spent in the nuclear industry at Hinkley Point Nuclear Power Station, working on both the Magnox and AGR sites where he became Section Head with responsibilities for Electrical, Control and Instrumentation plant and staff in both Production and Engineering departments.  He later returned to support decommissioning activities on the Hinkley ‘A’ Magnox site, as an independent electrical design engineer.  His concern over climate change has led to a commitment to develop community owned renewables.

Frank is operations director at EV Motion Limited, Specialist installers of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure. He runs a management service enterprise and has worked in project management and business development throughout his career.
